ISRO Launches Mission Mitra for Gaganyaan Astronaut Safety and Training
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched Mission Mitra to evaluate the safety, physical endurance, and mental resilience of astronauts selected for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission.
On April 3, ISRO announced that Mission Mitra is being conducted in Leh, Ladakh, from April 2 to April 9 to support upcoming human spaceflight missions like Gaganyaan.
The mission was launched by ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan with the primary objective of ensuring crew safety.
ISRO stated that Mission Mitra is the first-of-its-kind team behavior study designed to assess the physical, psychological, and operational performance of crew members working in extreme high-altitude and low-temperature conditions.
The study is being conducted jointly by ISRO and the Indian Air Force’s Institute of Aerospace Medicine.
