India Textile Market Grows Strongly Over Last 15 Years: National Household Survey 2024
Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh released the study report titled “Textiles and Clothing Market: National Household Survey 2024” in the presence of Textile Secretary Neelam Shami Rao and senior officials of the ministry.
The survey estimates domestic demand in the textiles and apparel (T&A) sector and serves as an important reference for policymakers and industry stakeholders for strategic planning.
According to the Textile Committee under the ministry, domestic textile demand has shown strong growth over the last 15 years.
The textile market size increased from ₹4.89 lakh crore in 2010 to ₹14.95 lakh crore in 2024, registering a CAGR of 8.3%.
Domestic consumption grew from ₹4.18 lakh crore in 2010 to ₹8.77 lakh crore in 2024, playing a major role in driving demand.
Per capita textile consumption increased from ₹2,119 in 2010 to ₹6,066 in 2024, reflecting strong growth with a CAGR of 7.8%.
Fiber-wise contribution shows Man-Made Fibre (MMF) and blended products leading with 52.2%, followed by cotton at 41.2%, silk at 5.2%, and wool at 1.3%.
MMF and blended textiles recorded the highest growth, rising from ₹1.47 lakh crore to ₹4.47 lakh crore with a CAGR of 8.28%.
Cotton maintained strong growth, increasing from ₹0.87 lakh crore to ₹3.53 lakh crore with a CAGR of 10.53%.
Silk and wool-based products also showed steady growth with CAGRs of 8.93% and 7.02% respectively.
