Hitesh Barot Elected as Ahmedabad Mayor
Nearly a month after the municipal election results were declared, the BJP high command announced the name of senior leader Hitesh Barot for the post of Mayor of Ahmedabad.
Hitesh Barot belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, and his name was already being widely discussed for the mayoral position. He will remain in office for the next two and a half years, after which a councillor from another category will be selected for the post.
Ahmedabad City BJP President Prerak Shah officially announced his appointment. Along with Ahmedabad, the names of mayors for Jamnagar, Porbandar, and Mehsana were also announced on May 26.
Hitesh Barot has previously served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Since the mayoral position was reserved for the OBC category, his selection was largely expected.
Anju Shah was appointed as Deputy Mayor, Kamlesh Patel as Chairman of the Standing Committee, Jashubhai Thakor as Leader of the House in the municipal corporation, and Atul Mishra was selected as the party whip.
