BJP Wins Falta Seat in West Bengal by Huge Margin

In the election results declared on May 24, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a major victory in the Falta assembly seat of West Bengal. BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won by a margin of more than 1 lakh votes, securing over 1.49 lakh votes in total.

CPI(M) candidate Shambhunath Kurmi finished second with around 40,000 votes. Meanwhile, TMC candidate Jahangir, who withdrew from the contest, ended up in fourth place.

This marks the first-ever BJP victory in Falta in its 74-year electoral history. From 1952 to 2006, the seat was considered a stronghold of Congress and CPI(M). After 2011, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won the seat three consecutive times.

With this victory, BJP’s total seat count in West Bengal has reached 208. In the results declared earlier on May 4, BJP had won 207 seats. TMC currently holds 80 seats in the state.
